March 21, 1938 – August 23, 2011
We mourn the loss of our Chairman, David G. Sills.
Dave served as Chair of the Irvine Health Foundation from its inception in August, 1985 until his death August 23, 2011. David’s was a life lived in full, and marked by extraordinary success. His career included serving as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, 20 years as a practicing attorney, and over 25 years on the bench, first as an Orange County Superior Court Judge, followed by 20 years as the Presiding Justice of the 4th District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana, California. Dave also served on the Irvine City Council between 1976 and 1985, during which time he served four years as Mayor.
As Chairman of the Irvine Health Foundation, Dave brought to bear all the skills from his various careers – military officer – attorney – mayor – judge – as well as his wry sense of humor and uncanny ability to understand people. He had great empathy for those in need and worked diligently to understand the health and health related issues facing our community. Dave was critical to every success the Irvine Health Foundation achieved.
Through his many activities, Dave improved the lives of thousands of people, many of whom he had never met. Those of us in the IHF family who were fortunate to know and work with Dave and to enjoy his friendship, join with his wife Susan in a great sense of loss. Yet, this void in our lives is tempered by our recollections of the wonderful times we shared with this noble man, public servant, mentor, and great friend.
Semper Fidelis, Mr. Chairman.
